THE JAPANESE WAY

This Japanese notebook is a new favorite of mine. The cover has a great texture and each page feels like touching silk. The book is created by the Japanese textile designer Katsuji Wakisaka who used to work for Finnish Marimekko. However when he returned to Japan in the eighties, he started his company SOU * SOU in Kyoto which creates modern design based on Japanese tradition.

SOU* SOU means actually yes – yes, and I am told that if you listen carefully to a Japanese conversation, you will hear these two words over and over again. It is supposed to be the way the Japanese recognize and validate each other and is a central facet of contemporary Japanese culture.
