GELATERIA DEL TEATRO

iskrem

Gelato or ice cream is to be found in Rome at almost every corner it’s seems like. The Romans do love their gelaterias.

When we discovered this ice cream heaven where the sensation in each spoonful was intensely real, we decided to skip the well-known and touristy ice cream places. At Gelateria del Teatro they do offer ice cream with juice hand squeezed from Amalfi Coast lemons and hand chopped pistachios from Sicily. And the variety of chocolate is unbelievable, ranging from “al latte” to “puro” – reputedly 70% chocolate.

Stefano, the owner, told us that the gelato is made of fresh and organic ingredients sourced locally with no artificial colors, flavors or thickeners. The former pastry chef and his wife Silvia opened the gelateria in 2006, taking the traditional Italian specialty to a level of haute gastronomic genius.

In the window we could view all the fresh ingredients which were used in the ice-cream and one of the employee making it.

My favorites after paying a visit nearly every day were:
*Ricotta, Sicilian almond and fig
*White chocolate and basil
*Fresh mint and chocolate
*Rosemary honey lemon

NASONI

Safe, fresh and super-cold water still free-flows out and through the 2,500 small drinking fountains placed around Rome. They are often named as Nasoni because of their nose-shaped spigots. The trick is to plug up the bottom where the water comes out, forcing it to pop out the little hole on the top of the spout like a whale’s blowhole. It becomes easily an insta-drinking fountain.

This water is brought in from outside of the city. Thanks to the aqueducts from the first century A.D, Rome has never had limited in water usage and the city’s gift to their inhabitants and its visitants is this abundance of water.

We had fun downloading this app for finding drinking fountains near us.

OFF TO LOVELY ROME

Rome-2

We are off to Rome – for strolling along and taking in the sounds of the city. For breathing in the lively atmosphere in the markets. For having an aperitivo in one of the piazzas while we are people-watching and enjoying the smell of ancient stones and fresh made coffee.

And once again be taken by the beauty of the historical city.

WHY NOT PLAY A LITTLE?

My husband and I got these mugs as a present from our daughter when she returned from New York. They were bought in Starbucks and came with a black and white pen for decoration. My artistic friend decorated them for us before they were put in the oven for baking. I simply love them, and during the weekends when we have time for long and lazy breakfasts, we fill them up with some good caffè latte.

LITTLE EUROPE

One of my absolute favorite items in my living room is this tiny set of traditional buildings from all over Europe handmade by the American artist Laurie Poast. She has been living in different countries in Europe in order to reproduce theses architectural pearls down to the very detail. Currently she is staying in Bergen, Norway.

These minimal sculptures are all made in unglazed porcelain with natural pigments; a Norwegian stabbur, Parisian Art Nouveau, Italian trullo, German Fachwerkhaus, traditional houses from Amsterdam and much more. Watching them is like taking a historical journey throughout the centuries. Just love it!!

Apartamento is an everyday life interiors magazine which tells the story of personal experiences and lives through the spaces where we live and work. The articles document everyday stories, seen without the usual masks of look-a-like interiors, decorated to perfection down to the last millimeter.  Because in real life, every environment has got it’s own dynamics and peculiarities that make it special.

Apartamento features the homes and lives of creative people, both established and emerging, from all over the world. It understands interior design as a means of personal expression, showing how people arrange their homes and the solutions they find to the same problems that everyone has. It cares about the way people live and their relationships to the places they live. It puts forward a fresh and simply crafted aesthetic.

Apartamento is based in Barcelona, but has offices both in Milan and New York. The magazine comes out twice a year in English.

“Apartamento is the interiors magazine post-materialists have been waiting for.” —The New York Times

THE CHALLENGES IN LIFE

Untitled

In my yoga class the other day we were given the following words of wisdom: That we should wish for ourselves and others to have the patience, wisdom and the go-ahead spirit to deal with the challenges in our life. I pass them on to you.
