A TASTE OF AMERICAN NOSTALGIA

Located in the midst of Grimstad, a small city down south in Norway, you find this charming and nostalgic, American café called Platebaren. Originally it opened as a record store in 1979, but was transformed into a Diner in 2012 when Internet more or less took over the music business.

The café has elements from American history, geography and culture (except for the British intruder Clash); from a fancy jukebox, the best of old jazz LPs, Coke napkin holders, the Woodstock rock festival in 1969 with headlines like Jimi Hendrix and the famous Route 66 which also is called the Main Street of America.

The illustrator Kristina Skage has made this artwork that you find on one of the walls in the café. Here you can view all the American artists with hits from the 50s and 60s who for once are gathered together. Visit the hyperlinks below and enjoy these memorable songs and motion-pictures.
From left: Aretha Franklin, Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor and Johnny Cash and
Buddy Holly. In the back: Sonny & Cher.
